Investing in Your Education: A Guide to Finding and Applying for Scholarships and Grants

For higher education one always needs to invest lot of time, energy and financial investments. With the rising expenses and hike in fees there can often be situations where students find it difficult to pursue their dreams and ambitions. There are various scholarship schemes funded by Government as well as several institutions who help students financially. Investing in your higher education can never go wrong and we are here to guide you in finding some scholarships available for next academic year in India.

Here are few scholarships and grants in India available for students:

National Talent Search Examination (NTSE): The NTSE scholarship is available for students studying in class 10th and 12th. The scholarship is provided by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and offers up to INR 2,000 per month.

INSPIRE Scholarship: The Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE) scholarship is available to students who have scored at least 75% marks in their class 12th examination. The scholarship offers INR 80,000 per year to selected candidates. From 2023 onwards the Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) scholarship (provided by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India) which was available for students who have an aptitude for research in science has been merged with INSPIRE scholarship.

CBSE Merit Scholarship for single girl child: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) offers scholarships to meritorious girl students who have scored at least 60% marks in their class 10th examination. This scholarship is for girl students who wish to study 11th and 12th in CBSE affiliated schools whose tuition fee is not more than Rs. 1,500/-p.m. during the academic year.

AICTE Pragati Scholarship: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) offers scholarships to girl students who are pursuing technical education at the diploma or degree level. The scholarship offers INR 50,000 per year.

Avasar Scholarship: This scholarship is available for underprivileged girls who wish to pursue higher education in India and is a scheme by Avasar NGO. The scholarship covers the educational expenses. The economically weak girl students who have scored more than 80% marks in their 9th grade will be eligible for these benefits given by the NGO.

Sitaram Jindal Foundation Scholarship: This scholarship is available for economically weak students who wish to pursue their education in India. The scholarship covers tuition fees, hostel fees, and other educational expenses.

JN Tata Endowment Scholarship: The JN Tata Endowment Scholarship is available to Indian nationals who have completed their graduation and are looking to pursue higher education abroad. The scholarship offers up to INR 10 lakhs to selected candidates.

UGC National Fellowship for OBC Students: The University Grants Commission (UGC) National Fellowship for OBC Students is available for OBC students who wish to pursue a postgraduate degree or a research program in science, humanities, social sciences, and engineering. The fellowship offers a monthly stipend of INR 25,000 and other allowances.

AYUSH Scholarship Scheme: The AYUSH Scholarship Scheme is available for students who wish to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy. The scholarship is provided by the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India and offers financial assistance for tuition fees and other expenses.
