There are few things quite as impactful as a focused life; one lived with intent and a sense of purpose. Every single thing we see around us has its defined purpose – the rain, the wind, the electricity and even the mobile phones we carry. The search for the purpose of life has puzzled people since time immemorial. This is probably because we often begin at the wrong starting point. Focusing on ourselves will never reveal our life’s purposes. As Mother Teresa said, “A life not lived for others is not a life.”
The true significance of everything we earn – money, luxuries, positions, achievements – is fully realized in our ability to serve and impact those around us through them. This is what makes life deeply meaningful; it is a central aspect of the very purpose of our existence. Life driven by such a sense of purpose was perfectly embodied by Jesus. There is a passage of the Bible which describes this. It says that being God Himself, Jesus chose to become a human being, in order to reach out and restore relationship between humanity and God. By doing this, he put the interest of all humankind before his own. His followers are enjoined to do the same. This is precisely what made his life a driving inspiration for many who follow him, including Mother Teresa whose words we read earlier.
Each one of us can also choose to live with intent, striving to impact others through the very brief life that is given to us. So what would you like to do with the talents, opportunities, energy, relationships, and resources that God has given you?
