The human eye is a marvel of accuracy and complexity. It adjusts to light, automatically focuses, detects depth, and processes millions of colors. Even Darwin, the creator of evolutionary theory, struggled to explain how such a complex organ could have arisen solely via chance. His own remarks imply that certain aspects of life appear far too deliberate to be unintentional. This brings into question the fallacies of atheism, which often attribute such complexity to random processes.
The problem with atheism is that it prioritises belief in randomness over rationality. If the cosmos, including the human body, were the result of random processes, we would expect defects, inconsistencies, and inefficiencies. However, what we see instead is order, harmony, and functionality, much more than what simple chance could possibly create.
“To suppose that the eye, with all its inimitable contrivances, could have been formed by natural selection, seems, I freely confess, absurd in the highest degree.” – Charles Darwin
Above is the quote from Charles Darwin in his book ‘On the Origin of Species’. However, later in the same chapter of his book, he showed how he believed it evolved anyway and that the absurdity was illusory. Darwin may have abandoned his naturalistic theory on the genesis of living things if he had known as much as we do now about the eye and its accompanying systems.
Eye is more than just a collection of cells. It is a system in which all parts must perform correctly at the same time. Sight would not exist if any of its components, such as the cornea, retina, or optic nerve, were missing or underdeveloped. How might random mutations create such a complicated system step by step if it only functions as a fully formed whole?
Atheism provides no meaningful answer. The notion that such intricacy originated through chance needs greater faith than confidence in an intelligent cause. The eye is not an accident. It is proof of intentional design. Recognizing this does not mean rejecting science. But rather it acknowledges that science points to something greater—a mind behind the art. The Bible states, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands”. It implies that creation itself bears witness to a divine Creator. From the complexity of the human eye to the immensity of the universe, everything reveals God’s wisdom. It ultimately reveals the intentionality, providing no reason to doubt His existence.
Thus, the fallacies of atheism become evident when confronted with the intricate design found in nature.
