Get a handle on your thoughts

Thoughts play a vital role in influencing the quality of life. If we get a handle on our thoughts and are deliberate about what we dwell on and what we don’t, we can have a better life. But if we simply allow ourselves to be carried away by every single thought that comes our way, life could end up being quite chaotic.

A new study has suggested that an average person has 6,200 thoughts per day. Those 6,200 thoughts are naturally a mixture of good and bad, positive and negative, and not every one of these thoughts needs to be allowed permanent space in our minds. We know that when thoughts are given such space, they turn into actions, repeated actions become a habit, and finally, habits shape our character. We can’t always avoid negative thoughts, but we can be deliberate about the way we handle them. As the popular proverb says, we can’t prevent birds from flying over our head, but we can certainly prevent them from building nests in our hair.

The Bible says, “Keep your minds on whatever is true, pure, right, holy, friendly, and proper. Don’t ever stop thinking about what is truly worthwhile and worthy of praise.” So choose diligently to nourish thoughts that will let you live as a better person, and let go of thoughts that can bring turbulence or chaos to your life . A lot of who you are and who you become depends on the thoughts you nourish. Get a handle your thoughts before they get a handle on you.
