CLASS 10 CBSE BOARDS CANCELLED, 12TH POSTPONED

The Central Board of Secondary Education and the Ministry of Human Resources Development have decided to cancel the class 10 board examinations while postponing the same for class 12 for now as Corona Virus cases continue to wreak havoc across the country.

Earlier this week, the Ministry of Human Resource Development and CBSE held a meeting amid the rising demand for cancellation on board exams. The meeting held yesterday did not only consider CBSE but also talked about bringing a uniform policy and guidelines on board exams across states, as was being demanded by several state ministers.

After a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of Human Resources Development has decided to postpone the class 12 exams and cancel the class 10 board exams. For CBSE class 12 boards, the situation will be reviewed on June 1 and revised dates will be announced thereafter.

“The results of Class 10 Board will be prepared on the basis of an objective criterion to be developed by the Board. Any candidate who is not satisfied with the marks allocated to him/her on this basis will be given an opportunity to sit in an exam as and when the conditions are conducive to hold the exams,” the Ministry said in a press release on Tuesday.

“A notice of at least 15 days will be given before the start of the examinations,” reads the official statement regarding the next announcement of dates for Class 12th.

The Classes 10 and 12 Board Exams were earlier scheduled to begin from May 4. The announcement to postpone and cancel exams comes in the wake of rising COVID-19 cases across the nation. A large group of students, parents and teachers, as well as, several states had been demanding the deferment of the CBSE Board exams 2021.

Over 30 lakh students appear for CBSE class 10 and 12 board exams every year on average. Amid rising cases of corona virus pandemic, there is concern over the health of students and teachers on duty during exams. Also, since the entire academic session is being held online, students have been demanding an online exam.
