Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.

MOTHER TERESA

Most of us love talking! But are we careful and diligent about what we speak? Are our conversations rich in content or just empty words? Our words are much more powerful than we think. They can build or destroy.

So can we be careful about our words?
If yes, how?

Every conversation is a compilation of several words.
Before conveying a message, it is important to think about and prepare what to say. Such preparation must include an analysis about whether it can unduly hurt or pull down the hearer. It is also crucial to try and punctuate the entire conversation with affirming expressions of hope and love, especially when it involves speaking uncomfortable truths. It’s perfectly alright to disagree in a mature way, but we must try at all times to avoid pointless arguments, and a non-judgemental and humble attitude goes a long way when it comes to this. It is vital to remember that people and relationships are much more important than winning arguments.

The Bible says, “Gentle words bring life and health; a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.” Our words can influence the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual growth of others. The influence of our words should mend someone’s broken heart, heal their pain, uplift the hopeless and equip the weak. Words that are soothing can bring life even to the most challenging situations. So may our words always impart immense grace to all those we speak to.
