Around 50 lakh people have already registered themselves on the Co-Win portal for the second phase of Covid-19 vaccination since the registration window opened on 1st March, Monday, the government said on Tuesday.
“Since last morning, when the registrations were opened up at 9 am, we had about 50 lakh registrations on our site. Though there were some glitches in the first version of the Co-WIN which was launched on January 16, we have had no glitches in the new version of the system,” R S Sharma, the Chairman of the Empowered Group (EG) on Covid-19 vaccine administration said, as reported by India Today.
He said the government is watching the system closely as it has to be “highly scalable”.
“It should be able to take care of a huge amount of load. After all, it is a program with which we will be vaccinating 1/6th of humanity and this program has to cater to millions of people at the same time,” he added.
The second phase vaccination drive aims to cover 10 crore people across the country. People who are eligible for the second phase include people above the age of 60 and people within the age bracket of 45 to 59 years with specified co-morbidities. People above 45 years have to showcase a medical certificate that highlights their health conditions to receive the vaccine shot.
There are three types of registration process available:
Self registration: Register in the co-win 2.0 portal which is open for registration from March 9:00 AM.
On-site registrations: People can walk into the identified Covid-19 vaccination sites and get themselves registered on-site. This facility will be made available in both government and empanelled private hospitals.
Facilitated cohort registration: The State/UT government will take a proactive lead. Specific dates for vaccination will be decided where target groups of potential beneficiaries will be vaccinated.
The documents required for the process include Aadhaar card, Electoral Photo Identity Card, Photo ID card specific at the time of registration in case of online registration, certificate of co-morbidity for citizens in the age group of 45 years to 59 years.
The cost of vaccination will be free at the government facilities and have to be paid for at private facilities. Centre has capped the price of Covid vaccines at private hospitals at ₹250 per shot.
The vaccination centers include nearly 10,000 private hospitals empanelled under Ayushman Bharat PMJAY, over 600 hospitals under CGHS and other private hospitals under State Governments.
