On Thursday, Ford India announced halting of vehicle manufacturing in India but will continue its presence in the country through imports of global vehicles and electrified products.
By the fourth quarter of 2021 and by the second quarter of 2022, US auto major Ford Motor Co will wind down automobile meetings in Sanand(Gujarat) and automobile and engine manufacturing in Chennai(Tamil Nadu) respectively. This follows accumulated operating losses of more than $2 billion over the previous 10 years and a $0.8 billion non-working write-down of property in 2019.
Ford will proceed to supply clients in India with ongoing elements, service, and guarantee assist and will start importing and promoting should-have, iconic vehicles, together with Mustang coupe. Sales of present merchandise corresponding to Figo, Aspire, Freestyle, EcoSport and Endeavour will stop as soon as present supplier inventories are offered.
Anurag Mehrotra, president and managing director of Ford India mentioned that Ford will continue taking care of our valued customers in India. “I want to be clear that Ford will continue taking care of our valued customers in India, working closely with Ford India’s dealers, all of whom have supported the company for a long time. We are committed to taking care of our customers and working closely with employees, unions, dealers and suppliers to care for those affected by the restructuring,” he said.
Ford is the latest vehicle maker to cease production in India, following US companies such as General Motors and Harley Davidson, which have already left a market that had once promised exponential growth.
