The type of people who we surround ourselves has a big effect on different aspects of our lives. The people we are close to, affect the way we think and deal with different things in life. The people who are closest to us can either push us towards the best or pull us away from our goals. We shouldn‘t ignore the importance of our inner circle in life.

As iron sharpens iron, a man sharpens his friend. – The Bible

We often underestimate the role of relationships in our lives. If we surround ourselves with people who are always complaining, gossiping, or unkind to others, we will slowly adapt these character traits into our lives too. It doesn’t happen overnight but slowly it shapes the way we think and act. On the other hand, if we surround ourselves with people who are kind, motivating, encouraging and are purpose-driven, we will slowly adapt these character traits into our lives.

Do not be misled: ‘Bad company corrupts good character’. – The Bible

This Bible warns us on how the wrong circle can corrupt us and lead us to sin. While choosing people who should be in our inner circle, we can intentionally be careful and be wise. We must look for people who are encouragers, truth tellers in love, visionaries and growth partners. With these kinds of people around us, we will be resilient, strengthened and focused on our goals.

Not everyone should be in your inner circle and setting certain boundaries in life goes long way. This doesn’t mean cutting ties of people entirely, but to decide who will have the influence in your life. We are social beings and need to be around different types of people, but being wise enough to decide who gets into your inner circle brings a lot of difference.

The environment influences human beings, as several studies have proven. The behaviours, attitudes and voices that we are surrounded with all the time, affects us over time as we are contagious to it.

We must remember that we need the right people in this journey of life. The relationships we cultivate play a major role in shaping our character, belief and even future. The importance of your inner circle is found in the undeniable truth that it can either help you go higher in life or pull you down.

One must pause and check who are we allowing in our closest circle of life. Is he/she drifting you away from the purpose of life that God has planned for you? Are we being intentional in choosing the right relationships? If no, maybe it’s time that we choose wisely and decide which voices we allow in our inner circles.
