The breakneck paces and cutthroat competition do more damage than Good. Behind the glamorous façade, a silent struggle unfolds and the more we indulge the hustle, the more we fall prey to its invisible traps.

Today, IT fields and colleges have become breeding grounds for hustle culture, leading to an infiltration of mental health issues among young professionals and students. However, Mental health is no longer an option, but an obligation. It is not something that can be ignored or dismissed. It is a fundamental aspect of our overall well-being and hence, has the right to be taken care of.

For an inside look into what we are really dealing with, this is the experience of a workforce member who has really been experiencing the repercussions that follow hustle culture:

A backend developer working in Delhi NCR, earning around ₹30 lakhs per annum, recently shared his struggles with mental health on Reddit. Despite a promising career and good pay, he confessed to suffering from frequent headaches, burnout, and severe anxiety due to relentless work pressure. The toxic environment and job market uncertainties leave him torn between enduring current stress and risking a career break to protect his well-being.

This personal account echoes the hidden crisis faced by many Indian professionals today. We are met with accounts of rising tensions and workforce pressure which deeply dents into the mental health pool of today. Over working and striving for success no matter what the consequences, have been glorified for many decades. While seeking help and taking a break have been stigmatized and considered to be giving up or failing. Ignoring this would mean neglecting one’s well-being, fracturing your identity and limiting your personal growth, creativity and fulfillment.

While understanding the problem is crucial, it’s equally vital to know how to address it. Here are some strategies that can help:

1. Build mental resilience

Your thoughts shape your reality. Recognize when you’re overwhelmed and take action early. Reframe your negative thoughts into one of optimism and hope.

2. Organize your chaos

Stress can grow when you feel out of control. Break your tasks into smaller steps. Complete them according to priority instead of trying to do them all at once.

3. Seek support and Connection:

There are many among you facing the same struggles. Connect and share your burden with those who can help you figure things out and feel less isolated. You are not alone.

4. Take care of your body

Getting enough rest and sleep is of the utmost importance. It can make a world of difference. A balanced diet can help keep you energized instead of exhausted.

5. Protect your peace

Its okay to disconnect from screens, noise and constant pressure. It is not escaping but coming back recharged.
