Who cares? Maybe You Should!

who cares

In a super-fast world, everyone seems to be occupied with their own routine – an early morning jog, the drive to work through traffic, a long day at work and some shut-eye before the same cycle repeats. We’ve all gotten used to this new norm of the hustle and bustle of life.

Amidst all this, we pass by a lot of people – at the park, on our commute, at our workplaces and in our neighbourhood – most of whom go unnoticed. We often turn a blind eye to others’ needs, walk away from others’ suffering, become silent onlookers to injustice, avoid accident spots and choose not to help even when we can. We justify our actions by thinking “Who cares? They’re strangers and I have no time.” Even though this also seems to be the norm, maybe we can rise above it.

The Bible tells us to do unto others as we want them to do unto us, and also teaches us to love our neighbours as ourselves. Let us opt to follow this instead of the “Who cares?” attitude and begin to love and care for our fellow human beings, becoming true partakers of the communities we have been placed in. The world can be a pretty mean merciless place; let’s choose to make it a little nicer for at least a few people around us.
