“I am not in this world to live up to your expectations and you’re not in this world to live up to mine”
-Bruce Lee
We all have moments in life where we became someone we are not, to get acceptance and approval from the people around us. We might even have gone to the point of sacrificing our individuality, morality, or integrity in order to gratify that strong desire to fit in.
The way someone responds to peer pressure can reveal who they truly are as a person. The Bible says “Do not conform any longer to the patterns of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
What this means is that it is very easy to get carried away with the trends of the popular culture surrounding us, many of which are dangerous, unhealthy, or even downright destructive. In order to stand up and swim against the current when we need to, it is very important to have our mindsets reset, and purged of the distortions that the wrong influences may have brought in. The Bible also says that God can be the author of such a renewal. Maybe it is worthwhile to take him up on this offer.
